Dear Brothers, Sisters and Kin,
The Political Committee would like to thank all of you who participated in the recent election. While the American people clearly spoke there is still a faction of the country that will not concede the election. We urge all members to go to MoveOn.org and sign the petition that calls for GSA Administrator Emily Murphy to recognize President-elect Joe Biden and to release transition funds according to the Presidential Transaction Act of 1963.
We will now have a new President and Vice President, we managed to hold on to the House of Representatives and we will await a special election in Georgia to determine the fate of the Senate. We encourage all of you to visit the Reclaimourvote.org to see how you can help flip the Senate.
On the State level unfortunately we did not prevail on Prop 22 or Prop 15 but this is not the end of the line for labor. We will redouble our efforts and ultimately working people we win.
On the Local level we saw many successes. Candidates that Local 16 supported won! We returned Scott Weiner to the State Senate, Ahsha Safai Supervisor District 11, Myrna Melgar Supervisor District 7, Dean Preston Supervisor District 5, Alan Wong Community College Board and Jovanka Beckles AC Transit Board also all won their respective races.
While we won the Presidency our work is not done. We must remain vigilant in holding our politician’s accountable to our needs as we work to find a vaccine for Covid and rebuild our economy.
We urge all members to stay engaged so we can all work together to build a stronger Union and a better Country.
In Solidarity,
The IATSE Local 16 Political Committee
