DEFINITION
Assists the Master of Properties in all matters pertaining to the
management of the Stage Properties Department and acts as a deputy for the
Master of properties in their absence.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES (Illustration only - not all
duties are included)
ASSISTS THE MASTER OF
PROPERTIES WITH THE FOLLOWING:

Supervising the daily stage, shop, and warehousing
operations
·
Creating solutions for prop rigging and running
challenges posed for all production
·
Scheduling, overseeing, and accomplishing operational
duties of the Properties Department in a timely manner
·
Managing department personnel, including scheduling time
and activities
·
Monitoring safe working practices throughout all areas in
which the Properties Department works
·
Coordinating Properties Department support services with
other departments; particularly the Music, Wardrobe, and Orchestra divisions. Coordinating transportation of departmental
equipment, rehearsal support equipment, orchestra and wardrobe department needs
·
Supervising the housekeeping of the stage, pit,
warehouse, and rehearsal areas
·
Maintaining the Properties Department inventory by
monitoring the purchasing of equipment, supplies, and expendables necessary for
daily operations on stage and in the shop.
Tracking of Properties Department’s spending
·
Performing payroll-reporting duties for the Properties
Department personnel. Processing
paperwork for new employees
·
Managing claims for injuries within the guidelines
outlined in the Association’s Health and Safety program
·
Managing the storage, documentation, and rental of
Properties both in productions and in stock
QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
Any combination of education and experience providing the required skill and knowledge for successful performance would be qualifying. Typical qualifications would be equivalent to:

Bachelor of Arts degree or comparable experience. Experience with opera production and rotating
repertory helpful
·
10 – 15 years experience in stage operations; a
concentration in stage properties helpful
·
Skill in Microsoft Office, Microsoft Excel. Knowledge of relational databases helpful
·
Sill in organizing, prioritizing and completing varied
tasks quickly and accurately
·
Skill in establishing effective working relationships and
interacting with a wide range of people in a fast paced collaborative
environment. Ability to work weekends
and evenings as necessary.
·
Ability to determine priorities and influence
outcomes. Must be able to maintain
confidentiality
·
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
and meet due dates and deadlines
·
Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in
writing. Ability to use a telephone and
the Internet
·
Ability to perform duties within the applicable union and
budget constraints
·
Ability to maintain several projects of equal priority at
once and sustain productivity under pressure
·
Ability to sit at a computer for up to eight hours per
day. Ability to lift heavy objects and
climb a ladder
·
Ability to walk on complex stage settings such as raked
decks, steps and multi-leveled playing areas with some platforms being over 20
feet high. Ability to see clearly in
low-light situation such as are common back stage and in the theatre
·
Ability to maintain a positive attitude and open mind
toward working in a creative environment (must be flexible)
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
The employee must be able to perform the functions of the position in a
safe manner.
COMPENSATION: Salary per Collective Bargaining
Agreement and commensurate with experience
